Stefan Sykora, also known under the stage name Zyggi The Raindog, realises his childhood dream and rides his Yamaha Ténéré 1995 and his guitar from Pagig to India and back. 30'000 km of which about half off road.
Stefan Sykora, an enthusiastic professional musician, gifted motorcyclist and Vespa rider, is making his childhood dream come true. Back then, he wanted to ride his 1982 Vespa P80X along the Silk Road from Bavaria to India. 24 years later and with 580 cc more, his journey to the Far East begins at the end of May. "With this project I'm combining two of my passions, motorbike riding and music". The native Bavarian, who is a music teacher at the Arosa Music School and works for the SSSA Arosa Ski School on Hochwang in the winter months, tells us. "Since music has always connected people, I want to use this journey to experience new cultures and countries as well as the people as closely as possible. My guitar always accompanies me on my unconventional journeys, so it is also close to my heart to discover new styles of music," Zyggi explains. With his cousin from Augsburg, he will embark on the five-month journey to India and back. With sleeping bag, tent and outdoor kitchen, this will probably be an adventurous journey. The two men will cross countries such as Moldavia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran and India, to name but a few. They will also visit Arosa's partner ski school in Kyrgyzstan.
Sophisticated infrastructure finds space on the two motorbikes in the smallest of spaces. "The outdoor specialist Transa in Zurich gave us the best advice on outdoor equipment. I was also supported by Globetrotter in Chur with the visa applications. In addition, my bike mechanic Marko Bader from Fideris helped me with the conversion of my bike. Bluewonder in Chur equipped me with an amplifier for my special guitar The Bone, the perfect electric travel guitar," says Zyggi. Thanks to his wife Simona Sykora, who supported the realisation of this journey from the beginning, this dream is now coming true for the musician Zyggi The Raindog. They have in fact come up with a project. "During my tour, we will enable someone to take time out with us in Pagig. Since my wife is a kinesiologist, our new roommate can benefit from her support, live with us and in return take on responsibilities in the household and garden as well as take care of our dog, a win-win situation for everyone," Zyggi explains in conclusion.
Months of preparation were necessary. Thanks to the support of Phil Becker of philmvisuals.com, short video clips are posted regularly and you can experience this extraordinary adventure from Pagig to India first hand.
