Moldavia

A forgotten beauty

08.06.19

New day, new luck. 9am breakfast at the hotel, at 10am we are already back in the saddle. We decide to drive to Chisinau (Moldova) today and take a day off, because the driving is exhausting.

In Moldova they understand camping differently. There are large parks with log cabins that are furnished in a very rudimentary way. Beds, a table, a little electricity and a fridge in front of the door. These holiday villages date back to the Soviet era - Back in the USSR!

Nicola, the young owner, speaks good English and rents us a hut for 2 days including the use of the pool for 800 Leu, which is 40 Euro for both together.

We just moved in, opened the beer and a neighbour came to us and brought a plate of food. However, that was only the aperitif, because we are almost forced to come to theirs for dinner because they are having a birthday party and we probably look so poor.

They don't have much, but what they do have they want to share, and since we are probably exotic to them, they are very happy that we are so hungry and thirsty.

The party goes on until early in the morning and the vodka slowly takes my feet away.

The morning is horrible because the vodka burns longer than desired.

Max and Natalia have been waiting for us and invite us to their home. We gratefully accept and are driven by car to the BBQ.

We spend the whole afternoon and evening with them and I watch the most patient man in the world peel, wash and pickle unripe tree nuts. He explains to me that he makes jam out of them ?!?

The two who invited us live with their parents in a relatively large house in the country and drive half an hour to work in the capital every day.

After a long day, they bring us back to the "campsite" and we go to bed early, because tomorrow we're going on to the Ukraine.
