Corsica

Isle of Beauty

4.6.2021

YES DONE! Simona has passed her big motorbike test! Now it's time to celebrate. And we would like to go where we have never been before. CORSICA! The Isle of Beauty!

This is my first trip abroad since I got my licence. I'm really excited! Stefan's anticipation is already high, he is already planning the route. We're heading south from Pagig over the Dolomites to the Italian border and through the Poo Plain to Genoa.

The weather is not exactly kind to us, as dark clouds are already gathering on Lake Garda. We try to drive away from the weather, but it comes as it should, a cloudburst, directly over our heads. Luckily we are at a red light and lo and behold, on our right there is an entrance to a B&B. We'd better grab a room right away! Thought done. And for dinner we get the finest homemade specialities in a trucker's pub (or rather hall)! Bad luck with the rain, good luck with the food!

How exciting!

When we arrive in San Rocco, a small village on a cliff overlooking the sea, all the rooms are taken. So we persuade Cesare to camp in his garden. With a beautiful view in the wild olive grove.... (no idea what else is crawling around there). We stay a few days and go on a little discovery tour to Punta Chiappa (butt cheek) by the sea, cool off and enjoy the beautiful view and the fantastic food at the Nonna's place.

It is 5 o'clock in the morning. We are a bit rumpled and have to carry the luggage up what feels like 1000 steps to the motorbikes. But the host actually welcomes us with a small breakfast and two espressos. How nice! One night in the garden and one in the cosy room, but breakfast was always included - thanks guys! On we go from San Rocca to Genoa, directly to the harbour - and in the morning traffic! Oh my god! The Italians are total slobs on the road. Close your eyes and get through - or better open your eyes and get out of here fast! Lots of signs, but none that help us. So we stop in the middle of a huge intersection and ask two policemen for directions. They are friendly and wish us a good journey. We buy two tickets and 5 hours later we are on the beautiful island of Corsica!

Bienvenue au Corse!

STEFAN IS CHEF DE CUISINE TODAY AND...

...there's falafel!

Corsica is a dream! It is a mixture of France and Italy. It is a small island that speaks its own language. The people are very hospitable and still have time. In fact, the best of both nationalities is present here! A land of fauna and flora, Mare i Monti, homemade pasta, Chèvre Chaud, pizza, wine and chestnut beer. Wow! We are thrilled with the Corsicans and their island! You can literally feel that the Corsicans were real fighting spirits back then. They wanted to be independent! They did then and they do now.

Wind FOR 12 HOURS Now

we're waiting for Moule et Frites

We explore the north of the island - Cape Corse, north of Bastia and then head west through the desert "Désert des Agriates". The nature is varied and offers wild beaches, turquoise sea, mountains, cliffs and fascinating canyons. On the roads we repeatedly encounter free-roaming animals. Goats lying in the shade, wild boars, sheep and even horses and cows letting the wind blow around their ears. Everything is running around freely and it is totally ok. Totally chilling!
